This morning, 15-2-2011 I opened my yesterday’s newspaper to glance through what there was inside before I buy today’s. What a habit that is to browse through a newspaper a day later, just before purchasing a new one! Anyway, I noticed that yesterday was Valentine’s Day and today is our Maulud.
My other half happens to be away to visit her aged mother and I am all alone, suddenly enveloped in emptuness, with no one to say ‘I love you’. It was then a thought suddenly came to me. Somewhat excited I almost ran to get my small white board to write the following very popular Hadith.
It is appropriate to remind oneself of these words – of LOVE - especially when one is reminded of Valentine’s day; more so when it is time to celebrate Maulud.
We have someone to remember and to love , the one who left us with the following words:
Translation - ‘Tidak ada iman dalam diri kamu semua sehingga kamu mechintai saudara saudara kamu senua sebanyakmana kamu kasih dirimu sendiri.’
That is what LOVE should truly mean to us.
Must we think that the martyred Saint Valentine is anywhere up to Muhammad’s status that we need him to remind us of love?
-------------
And so this mornng, when a small group of form 4 pupils sat in front, I gave it all with love.
At the end of the class, three girls chose to stay back to do some work on the computers. Knowing that they had come to Almanar without breakfast, I pulled out a ten-ringgit note for them to buy something from a stall nearby to eat - all for the love of it.

Allahumma salli ala Muhammad.
Berkhidmat kerana Tuhan untuk kemanusiaan

Thank you Al-Manar. I had seen many definitions and meaning of love throughout the blog world today, but yours is the best. I'll keep the hadith closely in my heart.
Allahumma sali ala Muhammad
Allahumma sali alaihi Wassallam.
wow Pakcik is well-verse with Alhadith as well and I can see that he can read the Hadith without the normal (all important to us Malays) baris...
Looks like Puan Aisyah has beaten me to it.. best definition of love..
Salam Maulidurrasul..
Dear Pakcik,
Bless you for making some girls, who would have gone without breakfast, had a hearty meal. I'm guessing it would have been nasi dagang or nasi minyok. yummm.... purrr....meow!
All the love in the world for you,
Angelina
Aishah,
You are too generous with your compliments. Let us focus our thoughts on what he as the real messeger said to us for our own good.
Kak Nora,
Sama sama lah kita brsalawat keatsnya. Terima kasih menziarahi kmi.
Ayah Wan,
A swallow doesn't make a summer. A few words do not make the whole language. I happen to have learnt this particular hadith more than fifty years ago. You do not need 'baris' for Al Fatihah and many other surah, I am certain.
I have not seen your update on the 'project'. Hope there are no more thorny problems.

It is easier to please these kampong girls than the city cats, sniffing, scratching and purring. At two o'clock they were still around and high-spitited, and they still had some cash left!
Salam Pakcik and salam maulidurrasul
Bless your kind heart Pakcik. Reminds me of my late uncle who never failed to dig into his pocket whenever he met me in the bus or anywhere during my deprived schooldays. The 30 or 40 cents he handed over to me felt like a fortune and much appreciated.
An aunt never failed to bring some buah tangan (sometimes a packet of biskut tawar or other small items) whenever she visited.
The thoughtfulness of these people shaped my habit and I would always hand a few ringgit to my anak buah whenever I visit my kampung and also to bring some small buah tangan.
Believe me those girls will always remember your kind gesture.

dear pakchik, how true. i have long ago stopped associating love with valentine . i prefer to celebrate love all year round. may we always be able to see and feel all the love around us, and love in return.
Dear Abang Hassan,
As always you are very observant. The project will definitely be detailed out to you when I have a chance to grace (stealthily) your perimeter again..
As of now suffice to say ..that it is a bit difficult to get someone to finance a big project without wanting to have a lot (if not all) of it.. We are proposing a livestock exchange in labuan.. a first in Asean.. an answer to Asean farmers marketing problems.
Still struggling very hard.. praying hard asking Allah to open up one of His doors for sustenance(pintu rezeki?).
We might be at the end of the tunnel, life and death situation .. may Allah show us some of His Noor and bless us with His Magfirah and Rahmah
Amimy01,
You have a very varied and rich past in practically all the aspects of life I have chosen to write babout. We can sit back, watch the games being played by the young players and smile to ourselves.
Nali,
I wonder why during my young days I was not aware of Valentine. I lived without the Fathers' Day, Mothers's Day, Teachers' Day, Lovers' Day and so on. I was familiar with seven days of the week and hated Mondays!
Ayah Wan,
I am sorry to hear of the obstacles, man-made and much of it out of greed. Never lose hope. Good luck and may Allah open one of his doors. However, if that fails, HE has good reasons and we may never know but should be thankful all the same.
Alhamdulillah ,
A reprieve of sort.. my friend went and got a good offer of 100 acres some 45 minutes from KL..
I has encouraged him to sell equities to Foreigner.. even controlling stake.. so that we can succeed in Jengka, Labuan and this new place.. He said there is high chance of success if we proceed that way..
May Allaah open one of his many doors for us..
Pak Chik,
Is love an islamic concept? It is the dominant message in Christianity. Is it so of Islam? We know that TAUHID is the central concept of Islam. Everything revolve around Tauhid; love, duty, compassion, ibadat, muamalat... all with the central message of Tauhid; Allah being the object and purpose for existence. Love is one very powerful message but it is still subservient to Tauhid... Love is a powerful healer but it can also burn... (Just passing thought)
assalamualaikum pakcik, ni adress blog saya yang baru. http://rosnah-yunus.blogspot.com adress baru sempena tahun baru...
Ayah Wan
I am really glad to hear the good news. Better things are in store.
Gukita,
Define love, if we can, and from there I think we can move deeper into the subject. But I would prefer to limit myself to that which in Malay we say 'kasih sayang', not the 'cinta' between opposite sexes. That is what I understand of the Hadith, mempunya jiwa penyayang terhadap saudara saudara disekeliling - with much wider impact than what I understand of Valentine.
Thank you for raising the conceptual aspect of love and how it relates to Tauhid.
Rosnah Yunus,
Cikgu, dah lama tak ada berita. Mengapa perlunya tukar alamat blog - semata mata kerana dah beli rumah baru?
Saya ingin bertanya sedikit tentang sekolah Cikgu. Boleh kah email kepada saya supaya dapat saya senaraikan pertanyaan itu?
babah, you have captured the meaning of love in its simplest bare essence, ..beautiful.
love you babah, Lina.
LLov,
What a pleasant surprise. Thank you and love you Lina.
Dear Pakcik
Yes Pakcik I can identify with most of your students having grown up with hardships in my kampong typical of that era. I was brought up by a single father who had only pondok religious education with lots of love after losing my mother at age three.
Your students are lucky having you to teach, counsel and care all in the name of love and berkhidmat kerana Allah. Syabas and my salute to you Pakcik ...and not forgetting Makcik, I remember her checking if there was anymore beras for the students and how she worried when the gas cooker at Almanar was not working properly.
amimy01@littlereddot
dear pakcik, that is a brilliant tying of the two days together. and that hadith is something to keep in the heart always.
Amimy01,
Thank you for your good words
Mekyam,
I do look forwards to your occasional visits. But I equally look forwards to the day when you have some posting in your blog for visitors to read. Have a grand opening and I am sure to be there.
"But I equally look forwards to the day when you have some posting in your blog for visitors to read."
dear pakcik, afraid there is very little likelihood of such a day happening. i honestly have no desire to blog, so i don't see any compelling reason for me to. i suppose i see going around blogs and netchats and forums more as stopping by interesting places to chat and engage verbally. :D
Mekyam,
It costs nothing to wish. Ape nok buak, doh nasek badang! Wish you all the best, and see you around.
