Welcoming 2013

HAPPY & PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR TO
DEAR VISITORS
 ______________________________________________________________

My first thought for today's entry was a reminiscence of what I wrote at the stroke of midnight 51 years ago tonight. But I decided otherwise as my last week's entry was also related to a reminiscence. I should not bore my visitors with too much of 'Pakcik reminisces'.

Not unlike many growing up young adults I used to sit back in  front of a new diary enthusiastically thinking what my new year'slist of resolutions ought to consist of. Almost on all occasions the list would be a repeat of the same, year after year, to be forgotten no sooner than it had been put into writing.

Those were the days. Now, not unlike elderly folks, the thought grows more philosophical. I am sorry my today's thought goes in Malay. Perhaps, I should seek someone like Ninotaziz to translate the thought into English. What I am saying below may not sound coherent to my dear readers as it does to me. I apologise for my inadeuacy in modern literary Malay. So, here it goes:

Menghadapi pertemuan

From the long way back

Throughy tunnels

Sudah jauh perjalanan ku
Melalui pelbagai persimpangan
Jalan yang berliku liku
Ada kala melanggar larangan

Bila matahari hampir terbenam
Akan berakhir satu penghijrahan
Tiada lagi yang aku idam
Untuk menghadapi satu pertemuan

Sudak berakhir masanya
Memperbaharui cita cita dan azam
Dengan kudrat yang masik ada
Biarlah budi sahaja yang ku tanam

Untuk menghadapi pertemuan

The end is there for sure

Berkhidmat kerana Tuhan untuk kemanusiaan
==========================

NINOT has kindly given the followinginterpreration:

To face the Absolute One
I have travelled the long road
The bends and the corners
Faced with difficult passes
At times, my not so 'kosher' choices

At the end of the road
My journey and salvation
No more shall I ask for
   To face the Absolute One
I have passed by all the roads
Too late to change course or my mind
What's left in these hands of mine
Deeds shall be all I leave behind
     To face the Absolute One
===========

Thank you, NINOTAZIZ

Pokcik Hassan. Happy New Year to you and your spouse; May it bring better days ahead.

The path we all took is behind us now and today we live in the present which is a gift to us to enjoy life on this blue marble that we call home. We would continue to move on and enjoy life for that is what living is all about. Like you I am enjoying life my way and be thankful for what we have got.

Have a nice day Sir. May Salmah and you continue to be in the best of health. Take care.

Selamat Menyambut Tahun Baru 2013.

Tik tik tik
Masa berdetik
Tik tik tik
Dikira terbalik
Berazam tak pernah serik
Masuk ke bilik
Lihat cermin berlarik
Buat mimik muka pelik
Jelir-jelir korek korek
Aku nak jadi lebih baik
Aku mau naik
Jadi lebih cantik
Lebih menarik
Asalkan tidak terbalik.

(Pengisian malam ini.....baca yassin - kata Ustaz Eds.
Terima kasih ustaz.
Selamat Tahun Baru.
.....posting dulu-dulu....)

Cikgu Humairi,

WAS
Ini dia pakar bahasa.

Tik tik tik
Tok tok tok
Telinga di jentik
Rasa tersentok

Pakmail,

Perjalanan kita dah jauh.

Sdr Al Manar,

A distinct and perfect look at the closure of the year while focusing the coming future. Truly all of us, including myself we have that vision too, grateful for all that has been given. The writings, exposures etc that we now put across and not private any more as in often mentioned diary of yours,at times reveal the secrets and the yearnings , maybe at times hidden in the language of expressions. Let's continue to give our best esp to ALLAH SWT
TERIMA KASIH for knowing you in space at the moment ...

Dear Pakcik,
Who would have thought that a cat and an old man by the sea can become friends, let alone talk to each other? We've enjoyed being your blogger friend as well....sesekali tarik-tarik kaki tuh! purrr....meow!

Kotastar,

Our past is our history and we learn from history to build a better future. You and I and many of us are of the era with a lot of water having gone under the bridge, so to speak. We share our past so that we can learn something from each other.

C-f-S,

The moment I came to 'the old man' bit my mind went straight to :

"This old man, he played one,
He played knick-knack on my thumb;
Knick-knack paddywhack,
Give a dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.
.............. "

Did you learn that when you were small, not very long ago?

It's nice to have known you and may Allah bless you both with more energy to carry on.

Assalam pakcik, Selamat menyambut tahun baru, may Allah keeps you safe and well and gives you strength to carry on the noble deed that you have been so committed of. your new entry was full of philosophy and wisdom. it's true what they say about "jauh perjalanan..." you need to get out of the country for a while to appreciate the tanah air or be fantastic at english language to finally find the beauty of bahasa melayu. on that, i could not agree more with you paksik, yeeeee ha! i am such an addict as well a fan of your blog, ikhlas!

Assalamu'alaikum

I love how Pakcik and Ninotaziz works together wth that poem. Nice poem Pakcik. The road featured in the post looks familiar sangat. I've not written one in Malay before. Maybe someday I'll try. I know I may not share with public - malu sebab tak pandai :(

btw, I would like to wish you and loved ones a wonderful, rewarding 2013. TQ for being a good friend.

Al-Manar said...

Pena,

Thank you for the compliments. Let us hope we all can achieve something during the months, if not years, ahead.

Salaam to you and family

Temuk,

Salam sejahtera

koloGnyer,

I nearly deleted your comment seeing the dark shrouded figure and thinking that it was one of the many spams. Then on pronouncing 'kolognyer' aloud the familiar picture of Eau de Colonge, and the vivid memory of standing by the famous cathedral overlooking the great river of the same name came flashing.

So, welcome to our little gathering.

To be frank I do not understand your '..kengkawan lama berkumpul di sini pula sejak onkel OPED..' I have seen OPED but do not know what that is - my ignorance. Someone will probably email me on almanar@pd.jaring.my to enlighten me.

Mama Tim,

The pictures were taken on my last drive through Genting tunnel and the Karak/Kuantan highway. I would love to have the last one showing setting of the sun behind the range of hill at the end of the road.

I often get flashes of idea on a long drive while Makcik stretching herself quietly and soft musics playing in the background.

You do not need to be ashamed of your Malay. I feel so small reading poems written by persons like Ninotaziz and Cikgu Humairi. I regularly read Hank's English poems ( or whatever terms they are called, haiku etc ), admiring them but understanding very little the real messages meant to be delivered.

Likewise we wish you and family all the best in the future ahead.

kaykuala said...

Dear Pakcik,
I've responded to your email. I've been advised however,of non-delivery as your mailbox is full. I'll try again tonight.

Salam, just read yr poem .superb.and the translation is good too...

Al-Manar said...

Hank,

I have been having moost annoying problems with my phone line which I think have affected my in-coming mails and responses to my blog entries. This particular note from you is found in 'waiting moderation' box instead of appearing in my email. Your mail has not been received. IndaMaya's comments had the same fate.

My apologies to you and everyone else.

Al-Manar said...

IndaMarya,

Thank you for the compliments. Do come again, with criticisms as well; I mean that.

Happy new year.

Ninot,

It is reassuring to know that you and KoloGnyer are no strangers. We would then have poems translated to German one of these days.

Assalamualaikum Pak Cik...
I am so sorry for not visiting you for such a long time. I have been busy since my second year started. I went home twice but I did not have suitable time to go to Nuri. I had many things to do at home and I have taken over my late father's duties. My mother needs me more now that when he was alive. I am really sorry my dear Pak Cik and Mak Cik. I can not wait for the end of January as I will enjoy my two weeks' holidays at home,Insha Allah. I will see you both. Hopefully you and Mak Cik are in good health.
