Ninotaziz’s Comment – From Russia With Love

Our visitor, Ninotaziz left a comment to which Pakcik responded. Typical of her, a talented poet, she sees ordinary words and phrases as having special messages. Following that response she left a second comment. Here it is:

-----------------------

“ Dear Pakcik,

I haven’t heard the phrase Jauhari mengenal manikam for a long long time … it inspired a little pantun here …

http://pantundanselkaninotaziz.com/2010/10/jauhari-mengenal-manikam.html “

--------------------------

With Ninotaziz’s permission, here is her short pantun in three languages:

“ Jauhari mengenal manikam

Jauhari mengenal manikam
Bersinar di atas baldu
Kaca memancar lagi manikam
Menyusuk hati palsu

Jauhari tidak tertipu

The Diamond

The diamond bedazzles
Upon dark velvet
Yet the shining crystals
Hoaxed all wallets

But not the king’s jeweler …

Le Diamant

Le diamante brille
Sur de velours sombre
Pourtant, les cristaux aussi
Berne tout le monde

Mais ce n’est pas le roi bijoutier …”

-----------------------

Thank you, Ninotaziz. Fifty years ago Pakcik might have tried to put that into Arabic!

Thank you Pakcik. It is always nice when one's poetry has the opportunity to be read by more people.

I hope you received the 'other' poem in the mail.

Dear Pakcik,
To speak the language is one thing but to be adept in pantun forms in all 3 is quite another. She's great! Regular visits to ninotaziz's blog henceforth.

You are welcome to make the regular visits provided you credit to Almanar's account RM5 per visit. That is a special rate for you and don't tell others.

Dear Pakcik,
Pakcik is always a serious guy, me thought. You reveal that streak of humour sesekali.

Seriously, Pakcik, been thinking, myself, InsyAllah. I'll note the no.of takes on ninotaziz from now. Wildo, yes.

P.S. May end up being a budding poet myself. Shh...don't tell anyone.

kaykuala,

Am I a serious chap? No. not really. Sarcastic, cynical maybe. Fooling around, hardly. So I cannot be a poet.
You be one I dare you. And as I normally say to my pupils, "Pakcik will give you five cents, if you can." - and how they laugh.

Dear Pakcik,
It's a tall order, but let me try. It has to be in English though and it'll go right through 2011. 'Rome is not built in a day', so they say!

Al-Manar said...

Dear Hank,

That's a deal. Five cents will be waiting for you.

Dear Pakcik,
Yes sir, I just posted one early this morning , see ' The Baby Bird - dedicated to Pakcik' in my blog. Am still groggy from the experience. I am surprised I could stay up to finish it.

Dear Hank

You have made it. There goes my five cents!

How honoured I feel with what you have just done. Thank you for being so generous.

My salaam to you.
