End of the tunnel (Pt 10) - With love from Bandung - Fara

I sat wondering what subject should be chosen for my next posting when the following message appeared on the screen:

“ Salam …….
Pakcik, just dropping by to share some good news. Yesterday was the day I officially graduated with a degree, alhamdulillah, after 4 years. I’ll be heading home by December, looking forwards to meet you and makcik.
Lots of love from Bandung.”

-------------------------

That is from Fara Waheda who hails from the fishing community of my neighbourhood. Here is another lass I admire and am proud of. She will now return to Malaysia as a graduate in pharmacy, a pride for her family and the community as a whole.

In response to her message I have this to say to her:

Dear Fara,

Makcik and Pakcik congratulate you on your success.

It does not seem such a long time ago when you first stepped into Almanar. You were not happy with the facility at the boarding school you enrolled yourself a couple of months earlier. You had a mind of your own and decided to join a day school instead. Almanar was more than happy to accept you for extra tuition.

I do not easily forget how you strived to be among the best.

I do not forget that easily when you were faced with personal problems and accepted a shoulder to cry on.

And after all these difficult years you are leaving Bandung behind to return home qualified, hopefully ready to serve. You are an asset to your family in the first instance and to the community at large. Challenging times are ahead. Life is never that simple. Bur I know you have learnt that over the years. Perhaps one day Batu Rakit may yet see its first chemist’s, owned and managed by one belonging to its community.

We look forwards to seeing you, Fara.

Berkhidmat kerana Tuhan untuk kemanusiaan

P/S

I regret not having your photograph to accompany this entry. We will put it right when you are home later. We will record you cheerful smiling face.

Dear Pakcik,
Did she attend ITB in Bandung? Lovely place, my Mama said. Mama and Dad have visited there many times.
Congratulations to Fara...and yes...a chemist in Batu Rakit would be handy too. Hey...perhaps at the airport? purrr....meow!

Salam, pakcik.
First of all, I would like to congratulate Fara for her success. Being hundred of miles away from family was not an easy task and she managed to survive perfectly. I'm so happy for her. Hopefully the same success will be on my side. I'm finishing my final semester here. Hoping to hear some good advice from you for myself for the future ahead.
Do send my salam to Makcik. Hope both of you are doing great. insya-Allah.

Mimah.

I do not know whther it ITB, and will find our later.
You suggest a chemist's at the airport in case poor cats need some pills against travelling sickness. Yes we have to think of everything, don't we?

Dear Pakcik,
Yes. You got it right. There's a chemist at KLIA and another at LCCT that my Mama would patronise for some last minute stuffs. So, why not the airport in KT. purrr....meow!

Mimah,

I am pleased to hear that you are coming to the end of your course. There are not many people from Batu Rakit/ Wakaf Tengah area who take up TESL. At Almanar you showed that English was your strength but all the same I was never happy, scolding whenever I had a chance. You took it all well. My only hope is that you and others realise how I care and love to see success. Drop in at Nuri whenever you are back, for Raya perhaps. You naughty brother is now back attending my F3 group, preparing for F4 - Englsish, Maths, Physics and Chemistry.
Pakcik.

Kaykuala,

Dear Hank, The percentage of success is small and it hurts me to see the decline in the number of pupils attending Almanar and enthusiasm among the young ones of our people. So I have to be satisfied with the few successful ones.

Dear Hal,

You are getting at home with poetry. This new interest will do you good, I am certain. Keep it up.

Dear Umi,

Is there any new inventions coming out shortly from USM? Of late there seems to be a number of discoveries from Malaysian U's, wsinning international awards etc.

Khusairi,

You are right. I am not sure where Zul is now. I have not seem much of him since he left us.

Al-Manar said...

Dear Zul,

As you know it is often heart-breaking even just to get a few good ones surfaced. But else can we do at our age. At least you have the strength for tennis and looking after the kebun.
Old soldiers die hard, you say.

Congratulatios to Fara and al-Manar! Semoga jalan seterusnya penuh dengan keberkatan.

Temuk,

Tuan pernah menulis tentang kenangan hari raya tahun tahun 50-han. Ramai yang terpanggil memberi ulasan.
Salam hormat dari saya,
Pakcik Hassan

Salina,

If you want to be one like her you will have to make sure that you get 4.0 ( or above )every semester. Drop by my house next time you are home and pakcik will tell you how to contact her - for a fee, of course.

This is Fara Waheda,
To visitors of this blog.

Dear bloggers, firstly I would like to thank you all for all the heartwarming greetings,it never crossed my mind there would be tons of comment for this entry.

I studied at Universitas Padjadjaran, Bandung. My faculty is located in the rural area of Sumedang which is half an hour's drive from the main campus.

A chemist at the airport? It seems interesting but it is a long way for me to stand on my own feet and open up my own pharmacy ,but with some luck and prayers who knows it will come true one day.

Giving is always a must. I have grown up from nothin but I'm sure I will have something to give back for what Allah has granted me today.

To dear Salina,of course you can contact me. Do add to my fb account, search for Fara Waheda.

p/s:Pakcik I'm sure I can do well in cat-walking =)

I posted a comment the other day only to be rejected by the system at my workplace..
Somehow reading Pakcik's entry.. airmata saya tergenang.. now that reading all the comment especially from Fara.. the tergenang goes drip, drip.. probably because I knew I did have half a chance to become a teacher.. which I did not take..
It might be because I may not have a chance to share someone's success the way Pakcik did..

Ayah Wan,

Yang lalu boleh dikenang, jangan dikesal. Ilmu Ayah Wan jauh lebih luas daripada saya, yang juga bukan terdidik seorang guru. Habis apa bizanya kita berdua. Cuma seorang lahir didaratan yang seorang lagi dipulau - dinegeri yang sama! Rancangan Ayah Wan degan kawan berkenaan makanan ternakan itu nampaknya elok. Harapnya berjaya. Sementara itu, kalau masih berminat, alangkah bagusnya Ayah Wan mengikut seidikit jejak saya. Kemunkinan lebih berjaya. Secara kecilan pun cukup buat permulaan.
Salaam kepada saudara dan keluarga.
