We passed that clinic almost every other day on our way to town and never thought much of it; It was just like any other clinics, at least six of them, along the 25 kilometer route.
But one morning last week we just felt like having a change from visiting our usual doctor friend in town. For one thing this clinic is just half way to town. Secondly we both had very minor complaints, Makcik and her minor stomach upset and me with some skin rashes, all were the likely results of attending so many weddings in the recent weeks. But above all, for some unknown reasons, we were both attracted to it, a clinic which bore a woman’s name.
The doctor was a lady in her mid forty. After a twenty minutes’ wait we were both ushered into her room. She greeted us with a broad smile and passed a friendly comment, “ Jauh datang, ya?” Obviously she had studied the information copied by her nurse from out Identity Cards. Indeed, twelve kilometers could be considered far when there were other clinics on the way.
I enquired in a nice way as to why the name of the clinic did not bear her name. She explained briefly by saying that it was in memory of her grandmother she loved.
I volunteered to surrender myself first. After a close look at my complained areas she gave her considered opinion that there was nothing serious at all. Some medication should do the job. It would take some time to cure unless I preferred an injection. Injection it must be because I could not stand the constant irritation. While she was getting her syringe ready she gave another smile. “ Di lengan kah atau dibawah?” she asked me as a matter of fact. No, I was not about to bare my beautiful bottom to a lady right in front of my good wife!
Just as she was about to hold my arm (my eyes were beginning to shut then) she murmured,” Injection ini hadiah saya.”
And before we left her room she thanked us for coming so far to her clinic.
I thought nothing of her remark until I was paying for the pills, soap, lotions, powder and what not for the two of us. As the total was far below my estimated figure I asked for the injection charge. “ Oh, itu doktor hadiah,” was her simple reply.
I left the place wondering and speechless - why for free ?
------------------------
Two days later Makcik related the free injection episode to the mother of one of Almanar’s ex-pupils. It turned out that she had been going to this doctor. She is unlike many other doctors. Sometimes she treats a senior citizen for free. Perhaps it was her way of returning her old grandmother’s love. May Allah bless her soul.

Pak Cik,
Only this morning, our domestic helper confided to us. She used to buy curry puffs from a friend who peddle nasi lemak and cakes. She was always given extra. The friend (seller) told her whenever she gave away some free, her business for the day or two following would flourish - the cakes and nasi lemak would be sold out.
My loving wife Shadah also mentioned when young in Alor Star, there were Mak Cik sellers who did the same. Little girls like her or the poor got extras. These Mak Cik sellers always seemed happy and well (in terms of rezeki and health)
I suppose there is the berkat 'in giving' as often been said. It is true then, the more you give the more you get back. It may come in other forms or at other times when you least expect it.
The rezeki flows in somehow.
Salam Pakcik, this is clearly a lesson in Taqdir - I like it.
Hope Pakcik and Makcik are much better now.
:)
Masyaallah, what a beautiful story. I am in agreement in Kaykuala. Bila kita bermurah hati, rezeki kita dengan sendirinya melimpah..
Salam,
Wow! A touching true story indeed. Her life is indeed full of "berkat" from Allah swt.
Pakcik Hassan, That was a truly lovely story of humanity and What all doctors should do. It is actually not about money but most of all about the service that one get from the clinic. When one goes to a private doctor one is ready to pay for the service since we know too well they too had to made a living and they are doing it by giving their professional services. In this case treating and healing folks who are sick or need treatment.
That extra gift was indeed an extra psychological treatment that she give which is actually part of any process of healing. The feelgood feeling that's what made us happy in getting that treatment whereas paying for the service is the part we had to do anyway.
What that good doctor did is to my mind is what a good doctor should be, a friend as well.
Have a nice day and hope that you and Makcik are in the best of health now. Take care.
Dear Pak Cik,
Subhanallah..
In agreement with Abang Hassan on the Doctor's service --berkhidmat kerana tuhan untuk kemanusiaan and also in agreement with everyone's commentaries..
A beautiful story and touching comments..

I am glad you have to sdhare with us at least two examples which show how rewards for good deeds can come sooner than one can imagine. Thank you.
Zendra-Maria
Thank you. We are as well as well we can be. The slight discomfort we went through has been more than conpensated by the opportunity to understand and learn something how and what we all can do to contribute something.
Kama
Lagi murahlah rezekinya.
yongzu
On a lighter side see my response to Kama's comment above, and read her latest posting on 'padah urut'. I expect services provided during Friday prayer time is special and may be free for warga emas!
I will contact you separately and thank you for knocking on my door.
Pak Idrus
I agree this lady doctor did what good doctors should do, not forgetting the use of simple psychology to give that feel good situation. You never fail to leave meaningful comments, Psak Idrus. Thank you.
AHS
You held important positions in your earlier career. You know what good services mean to oneself, to others and to the country. Not every one can see the difference.
Wan,
Each of us is lucky to have gone through the 'asam garam'in life. We have to try to make the young ones see that early in life - to contribute, to be of service, not just to see the quick return.
Salam Pakcik,
Thank you for the heartwarming story, I have yet to meet one such doctor, but I know a few dishonest GPs that dilute medicine, dispense expired medicine or re-use sutures. Wallahualam.
May Allah bless her here and after.
Hasma
No there are not many doctors like that lady. But I know of another . .... my wish.
Dear Pakcik,
What a lovely story. Our prayers for your health and wealth, and happiness for that lady doctor. How I wish the vets we've known are like her too. Oh well... har har har *gentle laughs*
I know a wonderful man who tought me right from primary school, to always lend a hand, never ever expect anything in return, and above all, always try to hide that giving hand, because the good you do should be for the eyes of god alone.

(whoever you are)
The simple doctrine of the person’s value in life is worth to you more than all the academic materials he imparted to you. Emulate that and ‘Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!’ , to borrow Kipling’If’.
salam
pok cik
I miss you and friends so much
I still remember the sweet moment that I had with pok cik and friends..I will bear it in my mind till the end of my life
Thank pok cik for everything that you have done for us

Thank you for your kind thought. I wish you had left the name ( maybe a funny one!) that Pok cik normally called you by. Give me a call whenever you are around.
A lovely story about a lovely act of magnanimity or how a mere responsibility can be changed into an act of charity and kindness. It's a doctor's responsibility to prescribe the necessary treatment for your skin rash, Pakcik, but to give a free optional injection to haste the recuperative process as a 'hadiah' is an act of "ihsan', and even reflects a feeling of 'kesyukuran' if the lady doctor knows what you've done to help the children through her other clients and patients. Jazakallah to you and the lady doktor.Assalamu alaikum.
Saudara Norzah,
Caring attitude is natural in all of us, for that matter in all beings. It is a question of how far outside our own selves we are willing to act. All religons teach this value but we tend to take the opposite attitude, selfishness instead of a bit of selflessness.Salaam to you.
Dear Pakcik,
A case for:
Do Unto Others As Others Do Unto You
Good begets good
Buat baik berpada-pada
Buat jahat jangan sekali
Thank you for the real life story of the week...
Ninotaziz,
It is just a common incidence that we all come across. Used as a mirror to reflect ourselves it may help to tell us of our shortcomings, if any. You may not realise how many have benefited from the tremendous volume of writing you have been doing.Keep writing, lady.
Apa khabar Pak Chik,
Didn't know U would prefer to close your eyes before an injection...ha..ha..
For the last several months, I have been poked by the needles many times. In my case, it was not to put medicine in, but to extract blood to check the INR reading.
You have heard about Deep Vein Thrombosis? That's my challenge right now. My other challenge will be next week - cycling in the volcanic mountains in Jogjakarta. With DVT, I have to be extra careful.
Salam
ARZ'
I ggogle and read all about DVT. Cycling is not listed as a cause. That to me is a good news. And the fatality rate is very very small. That is what I was interested in. But must you go to Jogja so soon, Ramli? That worries me somewhat. What is good is that I shall soon be enjoying your report and photos. Take care my friend.
Almanar blog is experiencing some difficulty to post the following comment by DEiB.

BEiB has left a new comment on your post "Injection ini hadiah saya":
Salam...
I got a response/comment from you in my blog not too long ago.Thanks.
Your entry reminds me of how my ex student who is now a MD gave our whole family an injection each without taking a single cent.
I was told later that each jab costs RM75.00. Imagine, 6 of us.
Thats a rezeki for a teacher like me.habi

BEiB,
I am sorry having to cut and paste your comment.
As far as I can gather you are working not far from Al-Manar and are very much involved in promoting learning English. I would like to be in touch with you if that is possible. Thank you for your return visit.
BEiB
Thank you for the return visit. As I understand it you are very much involved in promoting teaching of English in an area not far from Al-Manar.I look forward to meeting you one day.
Salaam from Pakcik
Salam Pak Cik.How is your condition now?Have both of you recovered?I do really hope so.Reading this post reminds me of you.The way she treats people is just the same like yours. This is what the community needs.Person who grant something and contribute it to his or her people. But now,we can hardly find this kind of person.I want to be like her if I have the opportunity to become a dentist soon.I wish I could.InsyaAllah.
LOVE from,
