Pakcik reminisces ( Pt 20 ) – I have a dream

In August 1963 Martin Luther King.Jr. said in his famous speech, “ I have a dream.”

That was 48 years ago at about the same time Pakcik, too, had a dream. I wanted a partner in life to share my pains and joys
----------------
"When I was young,
I fell in love
I asked my sweetheart
what lies ahead
Will we have rainbows,
day after day
Here's what my sweetheart said
Que Sera, Sera,
What will be will be."

---------------------

And in August of the following year He granted my wish.

-------------- What lies ahead ?

However, one wakes up from a dream into another – But now it was no longer MY dream but OUR dream.

--------- We had our first princess

We had our first child to call our own. Then the dream continued.

My three ‘princesses’ ( EJ on the Princess Vandan Plas stands for East Malaysia Jesselton- Before Kota Kinabalu).

Three years later came our second, a hero.

----------------- Now we had two

We had a pair. But the dream did not end. Greedy, we wanted more. And HE granted us.

------------ With a princess and two heroes

Then He made it known to us through a gynecologist that we should ask for no more or else ....

We grew as a happy family. The children were big enough to entertain dreams of their own, surely.

--------- Togetherness - one happy family

Humans we were, we began to dream of acquiring ‘datukship’. And for that He has granted us ten - six heroes and four princesses.

--------------------- This is number ten to give us 'Datukship".

Will there be more? We have stopped dreaming.

Sooner or later we have to come to terms with what HE says:

---------------- Surah Alkahf

"Wealth and children are the ornament of this life ….. "

We have had most of what we dreamt for. Today, 47 years down the road our dream is simply that He grants us more days so that we can acquire more children, no longer our own but those who need love and care, the unfortunate.

--------------------- Orphans and of poor parents

Let us give these children a fighting chance to have a dream.

Berkhidmat kerana Tuhan untuk kemanusiaan

Dear Pakcik

What a wonderful entry of your life. I had dreams of being the first to go to uni in my clan and district of Pontian but was not granted, only the first woman to get O level!!!. For one from a single parent (my mother died when I was 3), and from an ulu Malayan kampong with serba kekurangan jadilah!!! But certain things I never dreamt of came my way, syukur Alhamdulillah.

Copy/Paste from f/b:

Nor Ghani commented on your note "Pakcik reminisces ( Pt 20 ) – I have a dream".
Nor wrote "A beautiful and romantic recollection of a happy familial and spiritual development, Akhi Pakcik Al-Manar. It appears to me that all the storms and buffeting of life were taken away by the sea near which you established your residence. Many of us have to face them without the advantage of a long stretch of golden and scenic seashore. "

Nali,

Do not think 20 years is a life time. It will come and go beore you know it. I started Almanar without thinking how it would turn out. Alhamdulillah, 17 years has passed meaningfully. So you see, dear Nali. Start you Handcrated Bracelets seriously. I am not an expert, not by a long chalk, but as I said before I will helpwhatever I can.

Your life is truly very very rich. Not many have been blessed as you have. Of course nothing comes easy. That is exactly why you have what many can never dream to.

Selamat berpuasa dan berhari Raya. Please drop by as often as time permits. I have not heard from our trvel agency friend for quite some time. Have you?

Al-Manar said...

Amimy01,

Your life is truly very very interesting. I have just said so to Nali above. She has a lot to write about. And I know enough of the varied achievemnets and failures you have gone through. So, as I said to Nali, I m saying to you. Please open a blog to share your life experiences with others.

Akhi Nor Ghani,

You have a gifted talent in writing. You comments on currents affairs are interesting to read and I can dream of writing half of what you do. The sea, the open sky and the clear moonlit nights make one romantic and sentimental!

Selamat berpuasa.

May you continue to have more and more helpless children that you can nurture to make them functional members of society. Insya-Allah.

Dear Babah,

As far as I can remember, our house was always a temporary abode for relatives, friends or some strangers (who later become not-so-strangers) who were in need of some kind of help. Be it a place for them to start working life in the big city of KL, a boarding place while they attend some tertiary education or even as a sanctuary from their troubled lives. I can also remember my very first 'nanny' in Jesselton was a teenage boy all the way from rural Trengganu. The house became a home to so many. It is also of no surprise when the three of us started schooling, some of our friends became close to you n Mummy, and some to the extend of adopting the two of you as their surrogate parents!

So, it is of no surprise, after your retirement, Babah decided to set up Almanar. To me, Almanar was not set up 17 or so years ago. To me, Almanar was set up the day Babah met Mummy.

Happy Anniversary Mummy and Babah. We all love you both so very dearly.

Love,

Enon,
It never occurred to babah and mami that our home had been deemed a kind of SANCTUARY by you, very perceptive of you. What Babah normally recalls has always been the incident of 13th May 1969 ( when you were just a little thing, tottering around the ground of our house with long hair hanging down covering your face) when babah drove the company's Landrover, bringing along a special police 'pass', to move a few friends from their houses in 'unsafe' areas to stay in our home. Obviously, you have noticed much more.

Perhaps that is one reason why our home has been generally and uncanily 'protected'.

You remember all these and we hope your brothers do so too. Hopefully the three of you have unconsciously adopted this trait as our legacy.

With love from
Mami and Babah

Al-Manar said...

Nuar,

Thank you. Hope Nuar and Meran read babah's comment for Kak Enon.

My heartiest congratulations on your anniversary and my Doa that you are Blessed with ALLAH's Bounty in this life and the Hereafter.

dear pakchik,

thank you.

how true, time does fly by so fast. my husband and i had had to wait for quite a while for our kaklong to make her entrance into our lives. after whom, to borrow an old friend's words, the rest came like bullets! we feel truly blessed. and now has come the time for little grandkids to add more color to the kaleidoscope.

i have been into the handcrafted bracelets for a while now, pakchik. i just haven't been blogging about it... yet. when i do get around to blogging, i would like to write about other things. about 14 of them.....

thank you for your kind offer of assistance. i shall take you up on that. so consider yourself forewarned, dear pakchik.

i hear from our mutual friend daily. he is well. he has become more like a family friend to us. i shall tell him you asked about him.

you warm peoples' hearts so effortlessly. and i gather from your childrens' comments, your heart is bigger than a mountain. i wish i were more like you.

Dear Pak Cik,
Happy Anniversary! So touching and so fascinating. You've realised not just your dreams but more. You are still looking forward to the 'larger family' the increasing numbers in al-Manar. I'm sure it gave you tremendous satisfaction seeing the deprived when given half a chance made good.

And congratulations to Mak Cik too. Mal Cik's contributions may be 50% but I can tell you from experience it's immeasurable!
Syukur Alhamdulillah!

Selamat Berpuasa sekali lagi!

AHS,

I am sure each of us has his share of sad and painful moments. My posting does not show the bitter sides of life. On balance the negative elements are isignificant against the innumerable gifts from Him, the plusses. I would like to see it that way. You have expressed your painful moments but I am certain they are parts of your past and the future is always bright - the light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you for your kind thought, akhi AHS. Again selamat berpuasa dan seterusnya Selamat Hari Raya dengan keluarga tersayang.

Al-Manar said...

Nali,

Openness among such a your large family as yours must have given tremendous pleasure. I envy you but I am grateful for what I have, nonetheless.

Can I have the previlege of being he first to see your first posting? ( I used a different word which I changed to 'first' for fear of beeing misinterpreted!)

Wish you all the best.`Your heart can never go cold with so many loved ones around.

Al-Manar said...

Kaykuala,

Akhi Hank, I honestly did not expect this particular posting to be embarrassingly well received. I just assembled a few photos from old albums, making sure no one would see how we present ourselves today. Had I shown the more recent photos I am sure no one would look at us. So I have successfully deceived my readers!

Akhi, you raised a very, very valid point. I have truthfully confessed to my other half that I would NEVER have come this far in life, with all the pleasures and satsfaction, without her untiring support in many, many ways througout these 47 years. Is it just 50% ? Obviously, you know the answer.

Our good wishes to you nd family. And Selamat Hari Raya walau pun tak pernah bertentang mata.

Dear Pakcik

My own blog? Will think about it. My life had been full of happiness and sadness some too painful to put on paper not sure who would want to read it !!!

Anyway I am planning to do some travelling mainly to the middle east partly to improve my arabic. Was supposed to spend a few months in Syria early this year but had to abort due to the present situation. Inshaallah will go to Hadramaut in Yemen at yearend when it is much cooler. I was there for a few days two years ago during summer, tak puas, and it was very very hot.

Salaams, Happy Anniversary to the Merpati Dua Sejoli and Selamat Hari Raya.

Sdr Zainal, banyak sangat puji bulan puasa ini tak elok. The headboard with that ayat is probably not one of the common ones chosen by many for the room. I wonder what made you chose that. I chose a totally different ayat and asked a calligrapher to have it written on a piece of timber.

Incidentally, I live to regret for having disposed of that car many, many years ago when I never thought what a vintage would mean. There was a story that resulted from the disposal of that car. I may make a pposting of that one of hese days.

Salaam and selamat Hari Raya to you and family.
